My parents wanted to teach us that you could still make a difference even if you have very little.
In April of 1990, my parents, Anthony and Angela Franquelli, gave my brother, Bear, and me an assignment to find a way to provide service to the community on Sundays. It was Bear who came up with the idea to prepare and deliver lunches to Baltimore City.
Simple Sacrifice was a community organization. Our neighbors, school friends, and strangers all came together to make Simple Sacrifice official.
Every Sunday, we delivered up to 1,500 lunches to a park on Baltimore Street. As we grew, we were able to increase the help we provided, offering groceries, rent, and other emergency items to people in need.
In June of 1995, the Franquelli family closed the doors of Simple Sacrifice due to Angela's failing health.
In honor of Angela, Simple Sacrifice was reestablished on May 10, 2015—Mother's Day. Today, we move forward with the same mission as before: to provide love and lunches.
